Union Buildings, The Bund, Shanghai, October 4, 1917.

J. H. Komp, Esq.,

Attorney-General,

Hongkong.

sir,

Be Goodwill and Cheps of Arnhold, Karberg & Co.

Hongkong.

I bag refermce to my letter to you dated the 26th of July to which I have so far received no reply. I take the liberty of asking you whether my request to have the Goodwill and Chops of Messrs. Arnhold Karberg & Co. in Hong- -kong assigned to my brother and myself and to be allowed to make full use of these Chops has been submitted to His Freellency the Governor, and whether I may expect a reply

shortly.

My reason for approaching you once more is due

to the fact that the manufacturers of some of the qualities which were formerly imported under these chops have been repeatedly approached by other firms to sell these qualities to them under new chops, and unless we can assure them that we shall very shortly be allowed to do business in these qualities under the old chops we shall not be able to prevent them much longer from introducing these qualities through competitive fime. I trust, therefore, that you will shortly be able to inform me of His Excellency the Governor's decision in this matter and that a favourable reply to my letter of 26th. July will be received.

I have sto..

(8d.) H. Arnhold.
